Bakhchisaray - the Garden Palace - is a romantic place representing several things: a former palace of the Crimean Tartar Khans from the 16 century, the center of the modern day Tartar culture, a mythological scene of a bloodstained drama described by poets and musicians - harem passions and unfortunate love of one of the Giray Khans toward a Polish captive. It's a symbol of the Tartar people's resistance to all the attempts of the empire to engulf them, it's simply a lovely museum from the medieval Islamic history. It's highly recommended for a visit, for contemplation and for creating your own poetic version of it's turbulent past.
Nearby a persistent traveler will find a Russian Orthodox rock monastery, a unique medieval cave city and a lot of overwhelming sights.
